Ferraby Lionheart

One of the biggest black holes in “RILY” type blogging is the almost unavoidable trio of The Beatles, Jon Brion, and Elliott Smith. There are too many, waayyyy too many singer/songwriters and bands that sound like a concoction of one or two of those musical forces (Sean Lennon comes to mind). So here I am trying to avoid mentioning how freaking much this Ferraby Lionheart dude sounds like Elliott Smith and Jon Brion and The Beatles, maybe trying to say something original about his music…but Jesus Christ the likenesses are impossible to ignore.

Unlike many musicians who think layered vocals will make them sound better and who cop basic structures of Beatles conventions while ignoring the experimentation, Ferraby seems to have a bit more personality to overlay on the hints of pop/rock akin to Lennon and Smith and Brion. His voice is spectacular (and most likely would be still if he didn’t use vocal layers…which he does). The music is beautifully light and emotional and could make it’s way onto any Summer “indie darling” box office hit easily. If that’s not enough to make you doubt this guy’s talent, how about the fact that Stereogum recently labeled him an “Artist To Watch.” You must be entirely turned off by this point, so I’ll let you listen and make up your own damn minds:

Also…looks like it’s official: our tumultuous relationship with the shitty, shitty file hosting service EZArchive is over…. we’ve abandoned ship. Hell, I’m not even sure if the old links work! With EZ 3.0 it looks as if they’ve disable MP3 streaming AND downloading…so all song files have to be played through an EZ audio player…which smells like shit to me. So– until we find a new host, half of our files will be streamable (those posted by Nathaniel) and the other half won’t (those posted by me…like the 2 above). If anyone has any cheap file hosting options like EZ, let me know in the comments. Shalom!
