[MP3] Hundred Waters: “Visitor”

Tomorrow marks the release of one of my most anticipated 2012 albums: Hundred Waters‘ self titled debut LP via Elestial Sound. It’s hard to find a better album that’s come out so far this year, showcasing a maturity and confidence that’s extremely rare to find in young bands and debut records. I first wrote about “Me & Anodyne” a couple of weeks ago. Here’s the album’s second track “Visitor” »

Hundred Waters – Visitor

Much like “Me & Anodyne”, “Visitor” combines unnerving organic sounds (like the creaking bass bow that’s etched into the first few seconds) with manic and colorful synthetic tones and pit-er-pat percussion, an amalgamative swirl with sublime production and mixing. I could listen to just the instrumentals on Hundred Waters all day and be thrilled, but it’s really singer Nicole Miglis and her stunning vocal contributions that make songs like “Visitor” something to truly behold: confident and commanding while slightly reserved, wonderfully overdubbed but not to the point of diffusion, open and ranged yet intimate and personal.

No one likes hyperbole — we’ve been guilty of that in the past, to be sure — but I know how I feel about this… and I’m confident that if you give Hundred Waters a good shot and pick up their album tomorrow you won’t regret it for a second. You might even find your new favorite band, as I certainly have.
