Video Debut for Midlake’s "He Tried To Escape"

Midlake has been keeping busy. Five months after The Trials Of Van Occupanther, these Texans are currently smack dab in the middle of a “film festival” of sorts. Being cinema-savvy as they apparently are, Midlake has enlisted the services of a variety of folks and fans to create music videos for each song off of their album. Right now I’ve got the distinct pleasure to introduce the sixth video in that series, a music video for the song “He Tried To Escape.” From the press release:

This video consists of a bunch of paintings that I did and manually animated. Some of them were paintings on larger pieces of glass and some were on transparencies. The glass pieces were spaced back to back about a foot apart and placed on a wooden set I built. We moved the background glass and transparency sheets to animate the video and my wife helped me to shake the transparencies to create movement. We shot it on a VHS camcorder which created a nice look. Jon Collins edited after I was done with it to bring it all together.” – Tim Smith

Director: Tim Smith
Paintings: Tim Smith
Editing: Jon Collins

The video is very impressive and really complements the song (as all videos should). Click here if you can’t see the video below.

Weird that they’re including this in the series, since “He Tried to Escape” is off of Bamnan and Silvercork and they’ve been playing that particular vid behind their performances since the album came out in ’04.

That being said, it is totally and completely awesome.

Josh, you’re totally right. We just felt it would be good to include a bunch of the Bamnan videos because (a) they’re awesome and (b) a lot of people haven’t seen them yet and (c) a 10 video series is more impressive than a 6 video series :)

Thnx for digging you guys. There’s also the video contest at youtube.com/group/midlake
